Summer Symphony
03:49
|
|
||
Bind our lives in melodies
That stagger from our lips
That catch our doubts and hold them fast
Until they are dismissed
Snare ourselves in silences
The ones we knew so well
The ones that spoke the truths of love
Our bodies couldn't tell
Scores that I've composed with you:
There's not a note that I would ever change
So let our voices resonate
With harmonies that never fade away
La la la la la
Lock us where our voices crack
From notes which ring too clear
From symphonies in summer breeze
And the times that we held dear
Scores that I've composed with you:
There's not a note that I would ever change
So let our voices resonate
With harmonies that never fade away
La la la la la
Find us in the harmonies
We've hidden in our speech
And grasp the words we think we've heard
But lie just out of reach
Scores that I've composed with you:
There's not a note that I would ever change
So let our voices resonate
With harmonies that never fade away
La la la la la

Oh, we can spin around in circles
Til the sky becomes the ground
Until our feet betray our balance
And our perception knocks us down
Oh, we can argue til the rope we're tugging takes us to the ground
And in the mud we ruin our blue jeans and our gowns
Dying in this dim lit house -
There's more that we're meant for
So tell me what's out there
You wanna tell me what's out there?
Frankly I need more than this
Oh, we can argue til our tongues turn blue
And throats are dry and sore
And still circumvent the questions to avoid what's at the core
And if the heavens opened up we'd doubtless close and lock the door
Saying "it's Monday, and I'd rather nothing more"
Oh, and dying in this dim lit house -
There's more that we're meant for
So tell me what's out there
You wanna tell me what's out there?
Frankly I need more than this
And you were homeschooled when I taught you how to read
And afternoons we're lonely lovers on a leash
In love with neighbor kids we'd name but never meet
Someday we'd get away
Someday we'll run away
We'll steal the keys when we are tall enough to reach
And dying in this dim lit house -
There's more that we're meant for
So tell me what's out there
You wanna tell me what's out there?
Frankly I need more than this
I need more than this

The Everything Waltz

It was October, our leaves had changed
Barren trees calling our names
Summer was waning, sunshine and warmth
Turned into autumnal rain
Here's to November, bleak are your skies
Cold frost at dawn is the sign
Flurries that fall leave me wondering why
You left us so high and so dry
So tell me now: what am I fighting for?
The same old song and dance is less than I'm longing for
But don't let go my hands
Please understand
It's what this demands
Bitter December, snow blanket white
Our frost-bitten hearts torn from sight
Now see to your pains and wrap yourself tight
Steady your gaze to the new morning light
So tell me now: what am I fighting for?
The same old song and dance is less than I'm longing for
But don't let go my hands
Please understand
It's what this demands
I'm awaiting you
You're awaiting me
We're waiting for the sun
To bring life to our cold hearts
To make due with what we've done

Wait For Love
03:26
|
|
||
Tossing, turning, sleepless yearning
I'm not good with goodbyes
Coming, going, thoughts unknowing
I can tell from your eyes
I can wait for love
Until I think it's mine
Head still spinning, what's beginning?
Am I seeing hints in your smile?
And if you want me, just say it bluntly:
"Can you stay for a while?"
I can wait for love
Until I think it's mine

50 Years, My Dear
04:01
|
|
||
Tell me something I don't know
Meet me here before you go in the morning
Cause after sunrise I won't see you for some time
And I think you ought to tell me everything
Stay with me out in the summer breeze
Stroke your hair as we watch the sun appear
You and me, young and free
In our hearts, though it's been 50 years
Like a dream, babe you seem not a single day older
All my secrets were yours to hear
When we spent our better years growing older
Our love was not a judge and never did I doubt
That we made the best decision of our lives
Stay with me out in the summer breeze
Stroke your hair as we watch the sun appear
You and me, young and free
In our hearts, though it's been 50 years
Like a dream, babe you seem not a single day older
So tell me something I don't know
Who's to care if what you share is unbecoming?
Your buried bones are still alive when I'm asleep
So I think in the morning I'll sleep in
Or forever
Stay with me out in the summer breeze
Stroke your hair as we watch the sun appear
You and me, young and free
In our hearts, though it's been 50 years
Like a dream, babe you seem not a single day older

Old Advice
03:27
|
|
||
Pluck my roses from your garden
So no longer shall they grow
Timid and shy, troubled to find, I know
Mind your tender little fingers
Sensitive hands with leather adorning
Cause they're armored and fierce
Covered in piercing thorns
Tiresome trellis, won't you let this vine climb?
Warm spring breezes, take these seeds to new lives
Now your bed is cracked and barren
Love becomes a blanket of ice
You're so lonely and cold, following old advice
And there's shattered clay, so many pieces
Biting our heels wherever we go
Sharp and unkind, troubled to find, I know
Tiresome trellis, won't you let this vine climb?
Warm spring breezes, take these seeds to new lives

The Cloud
02:49
|
|
||
You came a-tremblin, running scared, oh
You were shaking, saying prayers to who knows
Don't pretend it wasn't what it was
I contend you're lost inside the buzz again
You think they're out there, flashing lights in the sky
You're looking round with your eyes as wide as the night
Don't pretend you're usually at ease
I contend this isn't what you need again
Now we lay our nightmares down
With a smoke cloud to hide them
Fear fades out
Overwhelmed with apathy
Like we're drowning in silence
Can't you see
So apprehensive - locks the doors, close the blinds
You're oh so pensive, you're coloring outside the lines
They pretend the world is set just so
Oh but we contend they're trapped by what they know
What do they know?
Now we lay our nightmares down
With a smoke cloud to hide them
Fear fades out
Overwhelmed with apathy
Like we're drowning in silence
Can't you see that the way you divine
Is deceived when you think you're fine

The Road
04:49
|
|
||
It wasn't the first time I'd laughed
But it'd been a long time coming
Opened the cold can, and out flew the perfume of past something
I will not bend or break and I feel that our happiness can wait
I'll keep the fire burning strong as we move on across the waste
Circles are spires round my hand
But keeping the past is not fully living
The valley implores below the bridge
It falls from my finger and I keep going
No sign of regret on her face
As she walked out the door into the winter
She left in the night, and the coldness of it was her final gift
I will not bend or break and I feel that our happiness can wait
I'll keep the fire burning strong as we move on across the waste
Got a ghost in my head, to the coast is what she said
Though the world is dark today, tomorrow is a new day
My first cigarette was soon my last, as I felt the cold wind coming
A solitary bullet is all we have
I'll keep you from harm when we can't keep running
The boy is the true word of god
Can you do it when the time hits?
If i were god, I would have made the world just the same and no different
And so I have you
I have you

Castaway

There are ships on the horizon
Bringing solace to your thoughts
As the masts are slowly rising
You think of all the scars you've got
And as new life draws near, you stop and think of it
Is it really what you want?
Feel a twinge of fear as you stop and think of
You light the fires in your soul
Hoping the boats will see the smoke
This small island has made you whole
You want to hide but then you don't
And as new life draws near, you stop and think of it
Is it really what you want?
Feel a twinge of fear as you stop and think of
The things you used to know
The loves you had and lost
You've been to paradise
But wondered at the cost
It's been three years and now you're finally going home
An outcast, a dead man
Just one of the unknown
Looking back you see the shore
Palm trees swaying in the breeze
Yeah, you had everything and more
Now two worlds you're stuck between
And when the sailors ask, you just can't answer them
You've forgotten how to speak
The cabin bed's a casket when you think of
S.O.S
The things you used to know
The loves you had and lost
You've been to paradise
But wondered at the cost
The water is warm here overboard, you're going home
An outcast, a dead man
Just one of the unknown

The Adder
03:01
|
|
||
These lights keep flickering on and off
They're strobing, counting down the hours
When suddenly the hammer drops
While sickles tear apart the flowers
Those crimson curtains
They set the stage
What if they open?
Does it close the book or turn the page?
Or shall we tread upon the adder?
The lions roar reverberates
Will his claws be left in after?
Those crimson curtains
They set the stage
What if they open?
Does it close the book or turn the page?
Wrath of angels falls from heaven
Rock my soul to sleep forever

A Lot About Leaving
04:04
|
|
||
Mud in our hair
But who are we to care?
Clothes dripping dry on the rocks
Night now hiding our skin
Your mother calls you in
I'm watching you fade as you walk
You say that the spring is changing everything
But it is changing anything at all?
Say what you wanted to, there's no one but us
You know a lot about leaving, but not much about love
And if you ask me where I want us to be
I'll jump down to the river below, crying:
"Oh, take me way down"
Change in your eyes
Now love is not implied
You spoke of the spring
And the changes that it brings
But what changes need we make at all?
Say what you wanted to, there's no one but us
You know a lot about leaving, but not much about love
And if you ask me where I want us to be
I'll jump down to the river below, crying:
"Oh, take me way down"
